History
At the south end of the community is Brecknock Park. In 1680, the area was granted to Alexander Humphrey. With the Isaac Branch so close, it was a prime location for the many mills constructed along the area. One of which was a grain mill that John Clayton Jr. owned with the partnership of Thomas Hanson and Joshua Gregg. The mill was passed down to Thomas Hanson Howell in 1812. Howell was the grandson of the prior owner, and it remained in the family’s possession until late in the 20th century.
Although the mill building is no longer standing, archaeological remains can be seen from the nature trail. Other historic buildings on the site included:
- the main brick house – built in the 18th century
- a tenant house – built in the 19th century
- a log barn
- shed stables
Today the park offers the community the following amenities:
- pavilions

- sand volleyball courts
- multipurpose fields
- a stage
- a butterfly garden
- a nature center
