Old Furnace
The unincorporated community of Old Furnace is located within Sussex County in the state of Delaware. It is just east of Seaford and south of Dover. Road 529 and Concord Pond Road travel through the neighborhood. Some of the closest neighbors include Middleford, Gum Crossroads, Flea Hill, Concord, and Collins Pond Acres.
Early History
The greater area was first inhabited over 10,000 years ago. Many different indigenous people lived along the rivers, including the Algonquian-speaking tribes. However, the most recent tribes were the Lenni Lenape and the Nanticoke. They lived off of the resources the rivers and coast provided, such as:

While the Dutch were documented as the first settler in 1609, many think that the Spanish or Portuguese explorers came through the area between 1593 and 1630. The rural area is home to the 45-acre Stag Run Farm, located off of Foxcroft Lane. The family ran farms are owned by the Brady family. They produce not only heirloom fruits and vegetables but make their own honey. They offer their products straight to the community through booths at farmer’s markets, such as the Lewes Farmers Market. Some of their fresh produce includes:
