Minquadale
The unincorporated community of Minquadale is situated in the northern region of New Castle County, Delaware. Some of its neighbors include Collins Park, Simonds Gardens, Wilmington Manor, and Riverfront. The intersection of US Route 13 and Interstate 495 is in the town’s center.
History
The community was once home to Lobdell Estate, a historical house that served as a retirement home for the greater area. The facility was built in 1864 by George Lobdell, using an Italianate architectural style. It featured large decorative brackets and a large dome as the rooftop. Lobdell manufactured car wheels and invented railway car parts. Initially, he built the house as a summer home. In 1891, the house was converted into a retirement home for Lobdell’s employees.
In the southern section of the community is Gracelawn Memorial Park. The park is located on North Dupont Highway, or US Route 13, and contains an 80-acre cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1934. The site was once the home of Old Logan Farm from the 1800s to the 1930s, before it became Buck Airport in 1931. An unfortunate aircraft accident took the owner, J. Allison Buck’s life in 1933.

Education
The public schools that the residents can enroll their children are part of the Colonial School District. The district includes 13 schools and has 9,889 students enrolled in it. Local residents can send their children to the following:
- Eisenberg (Harry O.) Elementary School – located on Landers Lane
- McCullough (Calvin R. ) Middle School – located on Chase Avenue
- Penn (William) High School – located on East Basin Road
Demographics
The community is mainly middle-income, making it a moderate-income neighborhood. The working class has a different mix of occupations represented within, including:
- 29.2% manufacturing and laborer occupations
- 25.9% sales and service jobs
- 22.2% clerical, assistant, and tech support occupations
- 22.2% executive, management, and professional occupations
English is spoken by 72.7% of the neighborhood’s households. Other languages spoken within the community include Spanish and Polish. Approximately 16.0% of the residents were born outside of the country. A portion of the residents commonly identify their ethnicity or ancestry as the following:
