Marshallton
The unincorporated community of Marshallton is located within Mill Creek Hundred in New Castle County, Delaware. Some of its neighbors include Westfield, Stanton, Albion, Avalon, and Klair Estate. Kirkwood Highway runs through the town’s center along with Limestone Road.
History
In 1836, the community was founded and named after a predominant mill owner, John Marshall. The town was initially named Hersey Bridge, after a grist mill that was founded by Solomon Hersey around 1765.
During the Revolutionary War, General George Washington instructed his troops to fall back to positions along the Red Clay Creek in the area. An encampment was set up between the community, Stanton, and Newport, forming a triangle.
In 1932, the community formed its own semi-professional American football team, the Panthers. The league only played through two seasons but won both. Some of the teams they defeated included:

- 2-0 Ninth Ward Ducks
- 7-0 Defiance Bulldogs
Historical Landmarks
Throughout the community are historical landmarks that reflect a time almost forgotten. The United Methodist Church, located on Stanton Road, was originally built in 1886 on the foundation of Brandywine Granite. Additions were added in 1922 designed using Gothic architecture. Stained glass windows were added, along with a bell tower.
The Hickman House, located on Greenback Road, was built around 1860. The home has also been called Hickman Blacksmith Shop and House, Chas. C. Connell Roofing, Gutter, and Siding Co., and the house of Jeffrey and Pamella Seemans. The one-and-a-half-story blacksmith shop was built in 1899 and is surrounded by Sugar Maples.
During the late 18th century, the Springer-Cranston House was constructed along Stanton Road. The two-and-one-half-story home was built out of the local Brandywine Granite.
Neighborhood
Within the center of the town is the Kirkwood Shopping Plaza. The plaza offers the residents a one-stop-shopping experience with stores such as:

- ACME Markets
After a day of shopping, the area has many dining options to serve any appetite. Several located along Kirkwood Highway include:
