The private neighborhood of Lochwood is located within Sussex County, Delaware. History
This deed-restricted community lies on the Indian River Hundred, just five miles west of Route 1. Burton’s Pond flows along the community’s south edge. It connects to the Chapel Branch to the north and links to the Rehoboth Bay to the south. The dam consists of wooden gates and was built in 1939. The pond is privately owned, but up until September of 2021 allowed public access for fishing and kayaking. An insurance issue has forced the owner to restrict entry to the pond and its surrounding shore areas. It is one of only two ponds that are privately owned in the state of Delaware. This also means it is not maintained or serviced by the state.
