Alisa Estates
The hamlet is located just north of Smyrna in New Castle County, Delaware. It is south of Blackbird and west of Woodland Beach. Some of the roads that travel by the neighborhood include Black Diamond Road, the Korean War Veterans Memorial Highway, Dupont Parkway, and Alisa Drive. The Sawmill Branch flows through the community that is part of the Blackbird Hundred.
Historical Places of Interest
In the southern section of the area is Clearfield Farm. The farm includes a historical two-and-a-half-story brick home that was built around 1755. The house has four bays and a gable roof. It was initially home to John Clark, who served as the 20th Governor of Delaware. Clark was a politician and a member of the Federalist Party and the Presbyterian Church. It was common during that time for all Presbyterians to be Democrat-Republican, but Clark was unusually part of the Federalist Party and beat Manaen Bull, the other Federalist candidate for the position of the state’s Governor from 1817 until 1820. Clark’s historic home was used as an office for the correctional facility.
The James T. Vaughn Correctional Center first opened in 1971 and could house 441 all-male inmates. Over time the facility located on Paddock Road has expanded and can now hold as many as 2,600 inmates. In 1996 it underwent a massive $110 million addition that increased its cells by 600 and 888 beds.
Neighborhood
Within the community is the subdivision down Alisa Road. Home prices in the area average $363,080. It is mostly made up of medium to large single-family homes built around 1970 but also has many mobile homes in the areas surrounding its center.
In the northern section of the neighborhood is Helen’s Sausage House. The restaurant offers a 4.9-star rating for its American cuisine. Their motto is “If it ain’t Helen’s. It ain’t sausage!” They have the following menu items available for their customers:
